Inside Sales Representative job description template (India, 2026)

A Inside Sales Representative job description written for Indian companies: responsibilities, requirements, CTC and notice-period framing, five screening questions, and the full text to copy or post on ofper.

Last updated 3 September 2026. Competitor pricing and plan limits are re-verified against each vendor’s own pages.

An Inside Sales Representative sells entirely by phone, video and email from the office — high volume of conversations, a short sales cycle, and a target measured in calls, demos and closed orders every week.

A good Inside Sales Representative job description states what the person will actually do in the first six months, the experience that is genuinely required rather than wished for, the CTC range and how it is split, and the location and working pattern — candidates in India filter on those four things before reading anything else.

What does a Inside Sales Representative do?

Inside sales in India has grown with SaaS, edtech, fintech and D2C: products sold to many customers at a price that does not justify a field visit. The representative works a queue of inbound leads or a dialled list, runs the conversation to a demo or a decision, and closes on the call or within a few follow-ups. The day is measured — calls made, connects, demos booked, orders closed — and reviewed daily.

It is a role for people who like conversation volume and a fast feedback loop, and it is also the most common entry point into a sales career. Job descriptions that are honest about the daily call count get candidates who stay; ones that dress it up as 'consultative' get three-month attrition.

Inside Sales Representative responsibilities

Written as work the person does, not qualities they have. A responsibility a candidate can picture is one they can decide about.

  • Work the assigned lead queue every day within the response-time standard, by phone first and WhatsApp or email second.
  • Run a structured discovery conversation, qualify, and either close on the call or book a demo or a callback.
  • Deliver product demos over video where the product needs one, and follow up within the agreed time.
  • Close orders against a weekly and monthly target, and process them correctly — payment link, invoice request, onboarding handover.
  • Log every interaction in the CRM with the next step and date, so any colleague can pick up the lead.
  • Handle objections on price, timing and trust using the agreed playbook, and escalate anything outside it.
  • Hit daily activity minimums — calls, connects, talk time — and improve conversion at each stage over time.
  • Feed back what customers ask for and object to, so marketing and product hear it.

Inside Sales Representative requirements and qualifications

Keep the required list to what you would actually reject a candidate for. Everything else goes under nice to have — a long required list mostly filters out the people you wanted.

  • 6 months to 3 years in inside sales, tele-sales or a high-volume phone role with a target. Strong freshers with good communication are considered for a separate trainee posting.
  • Clear, confident spoken English and Hindi; a third language is a strong plus for regional campaigns.
  • Comfortable making 60 or more calls a day and holding a conversation on the tenth call as well as the first.
  • Able to type accurately while talking — CRM notes are written during the call, not after.
  • Familiar with video calls and screen sharing for demos.
  • 12th pass minimum; graduate preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience selling a subscription or a course — the objection patterns transfer.
  • Familiarity with a dialer or CRM such as LeadSquared, Zoho or Freshsales.
  • Experience with regional-language campaigns.

Salary, CTC and terms for a Inside Sales Representative in India

State a CTC range. Postings without one get fewer and worse-matched applications, and the range is the first thing an Indian candidate looks for. Say how the CTC is made up — fixed, variable, and any statutory components — so the in-hand figure is not a surprise at offer stage.

  • Show fixed and variable separately, and state the incentive slab structure if there is one. Inside sales incentives in India are often paid monthly on closed orders; say when and on what.
  • State the shift. Many inside sales teams work six days or rotational shifts to match customer availability, including evenings and weekends for consumer products. A posting that hides this loses the candidate at offer.
  • Say whether the role is in-office. Inside sales is usually on-site for coaching and call quality; if it is hybrid, state the days.
  • Notice period: 15 to 30 days is common at this level. State yours.

Screening questions for Inside Sales Representative applicants

Five questions is the ceiling on ofper, and it is the right ceiling: a form that asks more than that costs applications. Use them for the things that decide a shortlist, not for anything the resume already says.

Each question is one of the five screening slots an ofper job allows. Knockouts move an application to Screened out — nothing is deleted.

Questions, answered straight

What should an Inside Sales job description say about the daily call count?

State it — 60, 80, 100 calls a day, whatever is true. Candidates who have done inside sales know the reality; hiding it attracts people who leave in the first month and filters out the ones who would thrive.

Is inside sales the same as tele-calling?

Related but not the same. Tele-calling usually means a scripted outbound call to generate a lead or book an appointment; inside sales runs the full conversation to a close, often including a demo, and carries a revenue target. Use the title that matches what the role does.

Should I hire freshers for inside sales?

Freshers with strong communication can do well, but hire them on a separate trainee posting with a training period and a lower initial target. Mixing freshers and experienced candidates in one posting produces a confused shortlist.
