Frontend Developer job description template (India, 2026)

A Frontend Developer job description written for Indian companies: responsibilities, requirements, CTC and notice-period framing, five screening questions, and the full text to copy or post on ofper.

Last updated 3 September 2026. Competitor pricing and plan limits are re-verified against each vendor’s own pages.

A Frontend Developer builds the parts of the product users touch — the web application's screens, forms, state and performance — in React or a similar framework, working with a designer and a backend developer to ship features that work on a cheap Android phone as well as a laptop.

A good Frontend Developer job description states what the person will actually do in the first six months, the experience that is genuinely required rather than wished for, the CTC range and how it is split, and the location and working pattern — candidates in India filter on those four things before reading anything else.

The full template is below as plain text to copy, or post it on ofper as a job with the screening questions already attached. ofper is free with unlimited jobs.

What does a Frontend Developer do?

In an Indian product company, most users arrive on a mid-range Android phone over a variable connection, and the Frontend Developer is the person who makes the product usable there: responsive layouts, fast loads, forms that survive a dropped connection, accessibility that works with screen readers and keyboard, and the state management that keeps a complex screen correct. The role works from a designer's mockups and a backend API, and owns everything between them.

The posting should name the framework and tooling, the design workflow (Figma, a design system or none), the backend interface (REST, GraphQL, a BFF), whether the role includes mobile web or a React Native app, and the work-from-office policy. Frontend candidates will also ask about the state of the codebase — greenfield, mid-life or legacy — and it is better to say.

Frontend Developer responsibilities

Written as work the person does, not qualities they have. A responsibility a candidate can picture is one they can decide about.

  • Build screens and components in [React / Next.js / Vue] from designs, with responsive layouts that work first at phone width and scale up.
  • Implement forms, validation, state management and data fetching correctly — loading, error and empty states, optimistic updates where appropriate, and resilience to slow or dropped connections.
  • Own frontend performance: bundle size, code splitting, image handling, Core Web Vitals, and profiling of slow screens.
  • Build with accessibility as a default — semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, labels and contrast — and test with a screen reader periodically.
  • Maintain and extend the component library or design system, and keep visual consistency with the designer.
  • Write tests for components and critical flows, and keep the frontend build and lint pipeline green.
  • Integrate with backend APIs, propose API shapes that make the UI simpler, and handle versioning and errors gracefully.
  • Review frontend pull requests, and pair with backend developers and the designer on feature delivery.

Frontend Developer requirements and qualifications

Keep the required list to what you would actually reject a candidate for. Everything else goes under nice to have — a long required list mostly filters out the people you wanted.

  • 2 to 5 years building production web applications, with at least 1 year in [React / the framework in use].
  • Strong fundamentals: JavaScript or TypeScript, the DOM, CSS layout (flexbox, grid), HTTP and browser behaviour, and Git.
  • A portfolio or examples of responsive, accessible interfaces you built, and the ability to explain the decisions.
  • Familiarity with performance tooling — Lighthouse, the browser profiler — and with what makes a page slow on a low-end device.
  • Comfortable working from Figma designs and giving a designer constructive feedback.
  • Willing to work [from our office / hybrid / remote with overlap hours].

Nice to have

  • Experience with server-side rendering and its trade-offs, or with our specific meta-framework.
  • React Native or mobile web experience, if the product has a mobile app.
  • Experience with a design system or a component library at scale.

Salary, CTC and terms for a Frontend Developer in India

State a CTC range. Postings without one get fewer and worse-matched applications, and the range is the first thing an Indian candidate looks for. Say how the CTC is made up — fixed, variable, and any statutory components — so the in-hand figure is not a surprise at offer stage.

  • State the CTC range with fixed and variable and any ESOP. Frontend salaries in India span a wide range by company type; the range is what gets the right applicants.
  • State the work-from-office policy exactly and whether it will change.
  • State whether notice buyout is offered; frontend developers at large companies commonly serve 60 to 90 days.
  • State the interview process, including whether there is a take-home and how long it takes.

Screening questions for Frontend Developer applicants

Five questions is the ceiling on ofper, and it is the right ceiling: a form that asks more than that costs applications. Use them for the things that decide a shortlist, not for anything the resume already says.

Each question is one of the five screening slots an ofper job allows. Knockouts move an application to Screened out — nothing is deleted.
QuestionTypeKnockoutWhy it earns a slot
How many years of professional experience do you have building production web applications in [React / framework]?Number (pass: 1+)YesThe framework requirement as a number.
Are you able to work [from our City office X days a week / remote with overlap hours]?Yes / No (pass: Yes)YesThe top decline reason, settled first.
Can you share a link to something you built that is live — a product, a site, a project — when we ask?Yes / No (pass: Yes)NoNot a knockout, but a live example shortens the interview and most good frontend developers have one.
What is your current notice period, in days?Number (pass: 0 to 90)NoPlans the timeline and the buyout conversation.

Questions, answered straight

What should a Frontend Developer job description include?

The framework and tooling, the design workflow, the backend interface, whether mobile web or an app is in scope, the state of the codebase, the work-from-office policy, the interview process and the CTC range. Frontend candidates decide on framework, codebase state and WFO.

Should I ask for a portfolio?

Ask for a link to something live rather than a formal portfolio. Most good frontend developers have a product, a site or a project they can show, and walking through one live screen together is the best interview there is.

How important is mobile experience for a frontend role in India?

Central. Most Indian users are on mid-range Android phones over variable connections. Ask candidates what they have done about slow connections and low-end devices; the answer reveals whether they build for real users or for their own laptop.
