How to post a job for free (2026): every option and its catch

Where you can publish a job at no cost, what each free option actually caps, how to make a free posting eligible for Google for Jobs, and how to post unlimited jobs on ofper.

Last updated 3 September 2026. Competitor pricing and plan limits are re-verified against each vendor’s own pages.

You can post a job for free on your own careers page, on LinkedIn, on Indeed, on the free tiers of several applicant tracking systems, and on ofper. Each free option except your own page and ofper caps something: the number of open jobs, how long a posting stays live, or how many applicants you can see.

Posting is free almost everywhere. Distribution is what costs money: a free listing on a large job board sits below the paid ones, and a free posting on a small platform reaches whoever already visits it.

ofper publishes unlimited jobs for free on a public company page with JobPosting structured data, which makes each job eligible for Google for Jobs, with a full applicant tracking system behind it.

Where can you post a job for free?

The free options do different things, and it helps to be clear which one you are relying on.

  • Your own careers page. A job page on your own domain with correct JobPosting structured data is eligible for Google for Jobs, which is where a large share of job search now starts. This is the highest-leverage free option and the one small companies most often skip because it needs a page built properly.
  • LinkedIn. Allows a free job posting, with reach throttled compared with promoted listings and a limit on how many free postings you can keep open at once.
  • Indeed. Allows free job posts. Free listings receive less visibility than sponsored ones and can drop down the results within days.
  • Free tiers of applicant tracking systems. Several ATSs publish jobs on a careers page as part of a free plan. The cap is usually the number of active jobs — Breezy HR's free plan allows one active job and Zoho Recruit's allows one active opening.
  • ofper. Unlimited free job postings on a public company page, each with JobPosting structured data, plus the applicant tracking system to handle whoever applies.

What does each free option actually cap?

The word free is doing different work on each platform. The table states the limit that applies, with the applicant tracking system figures taken from each vendor's own pricing page.

What is free, and what the free option caps. ATS limits verified against each vendor's pricing page; see the individual comparison pages for dates and sources.

How do you get a free job posting into Google for Jobs?

Google for Jobs is not a job board you post to. It reads job pages from across the web and shows the ones whose HTML carries valid JobPosting structured data. That means a free job page on your own site, or on a platform that emits the markup, can appear alongside paid listings without paying anyone.

The page needs, at minimum, the job title, a full description, the date posted, the hiring organisation, the job location — or a clearly marked remote designation — and ideally the salary and an expiry date. The structured data must match what is visible on the page: Google treats markup that says one thing while the page says another as spam.

Eligibility is not a guarantee. Google decides what to index and what to show. But a correctly built job page is the one free option whose reach does not depend on a platform's decision to throttle it.

How do you post a job on ofper?

Publishing a job publicly takes two things: a workspace, and a verified domain. Both are free.

  • Sign in with your work email. ofper sends a one-time code, so there is no password to set.
  • Create your company workspace and choose your public address, which becomes ofper.com/c/your-company.
  • Verify your company. With your own domain this is automated and instant: a DNS TXT record or an email code. Without a domain (for example a business on Gmail), submit registration documents for manual review within 2 business days. Both routes are free.
  • Create the job: title, description, location, employment type, salary range and up to five screening questions.
  • Publish. The job gets a reference number, appears on your public company page and on the ofper marketplace, and carries JobPosting structured data.

Does free job posting mean free candidates?

No, and the distinction is worth keeping. Publishing a job is genuinely free almost everywhere. Candidate traffic is the thing job boards sell, and a free posting on a large board is placed below the ones that paid.

Being honest about ofper: the ofper marketplace is new, so it does not yet send you the candidate volume an established job board does. What ofper gives you for free is a correctly built public job page that search engines and Google for Jobs can read, and a real applicant tracking system for whoever applies. If your hiring depends on job board traffic today, use ofper alongside a board rather than instead of one.

Questions, answered straight
