Screening questions with knockouts: up to five yes/no or numeric questions per job
Ask applicants up to five yes/no or numeric questions on the application form. Mark any as a knockout: a failing answer files the application into Screened out, keeps it, and sends a rejection from your own mailbox. No AI, no free text.

How to set up screening questions
On the job form, add up to five questions. For each, choose yes/no or number, write the question, and decide whether it is required. To make it a knockout, set the ideal answer for a yes/no question or a minimum and maximum for a numeric one. Questions are shown on the public application form in the order you set.
Once the first application arrives, the questions become read-only for that job, so that every applicant was asked the same thing. To change them, create a new job.
What happens to a screened-out candidate
- The application is created in the Screened out stage instead of Pool, marked with the knockout that failed
- It stays visible on the board and in the list; nothing is deleted
- A rejection email goes out automatically, from your mailbox, using the knockout rejection template you can edit
- You can move the candidate back into the pipeline by hand if the knockout was too strict
Why yes/no and number only
Free-text answers cannot be checked automatically and take as long to read as the resume. Two answer types keep the form fast for the candidate, make every applicant comparable, and cost nothing to store. Anything that needs a paragraph is an interview question.
What screening questions do not do
- No free-text, multiple-choice or file-upload questions
- No scoring or ranking; a question either knocks out or it does not
- No re-screening: answers are evaluated once, at submission
- Not available before domain verification, because applications only arrive through the public page
Questions, answered straight
Can I ask more than five questions?
No. Five is the cap per job, on purpose: every extra question costs applicants, and a job that needs more than five hard requirements checked usually needs a clearer job description.
Does the candidate know they were screened out?
Yes. The automatic rejection email is sent from your own mailbox as soon as the application is submitted, so the candidate is not left waiting.
Are screened-out applications counted anywhere?
They appear in the Screened out column of the board and in the candidate list, and each carries the reason. They are excluded from the active pipeline count on the dashboard.
