Greenhouse alternatives (2026): what it costs and who it is built for
Greenhouse publishes no prices, has no free plan and sells only through a demo. Here is what buyers actually pay, why teams look elsewhere, and an honest account of where a free ATS does and does not replace it.
Last updated 2 September 2026. Competitor pricing and plan limits are re-verified against each vendor’s own pages.
Why people leave Greenhouse
Opaque pricing is the first friction. Every tier ends in a demo request, so there is no way to sanity-check a budget before a sales conversation, and buyers report having to bring competing quotes just to hold the price flat at renewal.
Cost grows with the company rather than with hiring. Buyer-side reporting consistently describes Greenhouse pricing as scaling with total employee headcount, so a company that doubles in size pays more for the same recruiting activity. Greenhouse does not publish this mechanic.
Renewals creep. Vendr reports that Greenhouse contracts commonly carry annual escalation clauses of 3 to 7%, and that flat or capped renewals have to be negotiated at the start of the contract, not at the end.
Complexity and setup overhead. Alternatives round-ups for 2026 repeatedly name UI complexity, implementation time and heavy configuration as the reason smaller teams look elsewhere, and reviewers on Capterra describe slow candidate-profile loads and pipelines that do not update in real time.
Reporting below the Plus tier is a documented gap. Capterra and TrustRadius reviewers name reporting limits as a recurring complaint, and the business intelligence connector that closes it is a Plus-tier feature.
Small teams are simply not the target. Greenhouse is explicit that it serves funded startups through enterprises; companies making a handful of hires a year are routinely redirected to Workable, JazzHR or free tools.

Where Greenhouse wins and where ofper wins
Questions, answered straight
How much does Greenhouse cost?
Greenhouse does not publish pricing. Its pricing page lists three tiers — Core, Plus and Pro — with no dollar amounts, and states that pricing is customized based on your company's hiring needs, hiring volume and organizational complexity. Vendr, a third-party SaaS purchasing platform, reports a median of $26,587 a year across 873 recorded purchases, ranging from $10,137 to $74,492. That is Vendr's figure, not Greenhouse's. Checked against greenhouse.com/pricing on 2 September 2026.
Does Greenhouse have a free plan or a free trial?
No. Greenhouse has no free plan, no free trial and no self-serve signup. Every tier on its pricing page leads to a Get a demo request, and the product is bought through a sales conversation.
What are the Greenhouse plans?
Core, Plus and Pro. Core includes structured hiring with interview kits and scorecards, base reporting and the Real Talent AI suite. Plus adds a business intelligence connector, AI report filters and advanced CRM. Pro adds advanced analytics, audit logs, a developer sandbox and enterprise data configuration. Greenhouse Onboarding is a separate product on its own contract.
Is ofper a replacement for Greenhouse?
For a small company that Greenhouse's sales team will not quote, yes: ofper is a free applicant tracking system with unlimited jobs, a Kanban pipeline, screening questions, interview scheduling and offer letters, and no sales call. For a company that relies on Greenhouse's scorecards, EEOC reporting, SOC 2 and ISO certifications, 250-plus integrations or AI screening, no — ofper has none of those and is not trying to match them.
Greenhouse or Lever?
Both are quote-only with no free plan. Greenhouse is stronger on structured hiring, compliance reporting and its integration ecosystem; Lever is built around a candidate CRM with nurture campaigns and is the closer fit for teams that source outbound. Third-party comparisons consistently score Greenhouse above Lever on reporting. Neither is priced for a company hiring a few people a year.
Why does Greenhouse cost more as my company grows?
Independent buyer-side sources agree that Greenhouse pricing scales with total company employee headcount rather than with the number of recruiters or open jobs, so headcount growth raises the bill even when hiring volume does not. Greenhouse does not publish this on its pricing page, so treat it as a consistently reported buyer claim rather than a vendor statement.
Can I export my data from Greenhouse?
Yes. Greenhouse's Harvest API gives read access to candidates, applications, jobs, offers, scorecards and interviews, and candidate lists can be exported from inside the product. Do it before the contract ends. ofper has no CSV import, so a move means re-adding candidates by hand or by uploading each resume, which pre-fills the form in your browser.
